Paris<\/strong> is the capital and most populous city of France with an area of 105 square kilometers (41 square miles) and a population of 2,206,488. With 200,000 inhabitants in 1328. Paris, a legendary city, has inspired artists, photographers and musicians throughout the ages. Victor Hugo described working-class Paris in Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>; Apollinaire immortalized the Mirabeau bridge in his poem and Joe Dassin composed a song titled \u201cLes Champs-Elys\u00e9es\u201d<\/em>. These days, luxury brands like Cartier and Dior draw inspiration from the beauty of Paris for their designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris is especially known for its museums and architectural landmarks: the\u00a0Louvre<\/strong>, the\u00a0Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Orangerie<\/strong>\u00a0are noted for their collections of French Impressionist art, and the\u00a0Pompidou\u00a0Center<\/strong>,\u00a0Mus\u00e9e National d\u2019Art Moderne<\/strong>\u00a0has the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe. The historical district along the Seine in the city center is classified as a\u00a0UNESCO Heritage Site<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Popular landmarks in the center of the city include\u00a0the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris<\/strong>\u00a0and the Gothic royal chapel of\u00a0Sainte-Chapelle<\/strong>, both on the\u00a0\u00cele de la Cit\u00e9<\/strong>; the\u00a0Eiffel Tower,<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0Grand Palais<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Petit Palais<\/strong>, the\u00a0Arc de Triomphe<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9e<\/strong>s, and the\u00a0Basilica of Sacr\u00e9-Coeur<\/strong>\u00a0on the hill of\u00a0Montmartre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris received 23 million visitors in 2017, measured by hotel stays, with the largest numbers of foreign visitors coming from the United States, the UK, Germany and China. It was ranked as the third most visited travel destination in the world in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n
